Annual Turkey Trot

BMES Turkey Trot Goal:  To raise $40,000 to fund paraprofessional staff, field trips, technology, teacher requests, special events, and to promote physical fitness!

The BMES PTO Turkey Trot is a fun-run where students raise money for the PTO. Students can ask for pledges based upon the number of laps they run or for a flat amount for participating. Each grade level will have a set time to run, and the goal is for the students to complete as many laps as they can during that time. The younger grades run on one course (shorter distance per lap) and the older grades will be on a separate, longer, course. You will be notified of what time your child’s grade is running. Please come out and cheer your child(ren) on!

The Turkey Trot kicks off with the T-shirt design contest. All students have the opportunity to enter the contest, and two winning designs will be chosen. The contest will begin the week of October 2nd (look for contest rules in the Thursday Folder that week) and completed designs will be due by the end of school on Thursday, October 12th.  The two winning designs will be announced at the Turkey Trot kickoff Assembly on Friday, October 20th. Every student, teacher and staff member will receive a Turkey Trot shirt to wear the day of the run. It’s a great shirt to wear for BMES spirit days throughout the school year too!

The shirt also gives us to an opportunity to acknowledge & promote our event sponsors. If you know of a business that would be interested in being a BMES Turkey Trot sponsor, please let us know. Sponsors need to be confirmed by October 12th.

If you would like to volunteer to help with the Turkey Trot, please let us know! Planning the Turkey Trot is a big job, so the more the merrier! We especially could use volunteers on November 10th, the day of the run. We also have some long-time volunteers ending their ‘run’ with the Turkey Trot as their children head off to Altona next year. If you would like to become involved in the PTO, the Turkey Trot is a great place to start!  Fill out our Volunteer Form so we can contact you when it’s time.

4The annual Turkey Trot is the largest fundraiser for the PTO. Having a successful Turkey Trot helps the PTO support our students, teachers, and staff. The PTO funds 4 paraprofessionals in the school, it helps pay for field trips, technology in the classrooms, educational programs during the year, instructional supplies, and teacher requests. The PTO also puts on a few social functions throughout the year to help build community at BMES. Envelopes for collecting donations & pledges will be distributed in advance of the Turkey Trot. All funds raised will be due by Wednesday, November 15th & our grand total raised will be announced at the assembly on Friday, November 17th.
